Arrowroot Duddali



Arrowroot powder is basically a powder, which is available in Southern parts of Karnataka, specially Udupi, Mangalore regions. This powder acts as thickening agent .  Powder has very cooling effect on the body n   hence largely used during summer seasons. Do try this easy, healthy recipe :)

Ingredients 

  • Arrowroot powder 1 cup
  • Sugar 1 cup ( More or less depending upon ur preference )
  • Water 2 cups
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder 1 tsp
  • Ghee/ Clarified butter for greasing.
Method :
  • Soak arrowroot powder in enough water for 3 to 4 hours. After 4 hours powder settles down in the bottom n u will get thick paste, now discard the topmost water.
  • Now to this paste  add milk, sugar n water.
  • Transfer this paste to thick bottom kadai n start stirring it continuously  under medium flame till you get thick transparent mass,  at this stage add cardamom powder & give a quick mix.
  • Transfer this to greased thali & allow it to completely.
  • Once it cools down cut it into desired shape.
Serve it chilled :)

Narayan Kataar ( Eggless Cookies )



One of the simple & yummy cookies, which requires minimum ingredients and can be made within no time :)  I got this recipe  from Lakshmi Canteen.com . So here goes the recipe !!!

Ingredients :

  • All purpose flour 1 cup
  • Powdered Sugar 1/2cup
  • Baking Soda 1/2 tsp
  • Ghee/ Clarified Butter, melted 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom powder -1/2 tsp
Method :
  • Mix all the ingredients except ghee. Now add  ghee to the flour mixture & mix well to form a smooth dough.
  • Rest the dough covered for 4 to 5 hours.
  • After 4 to 5 hours divide the dough into equal parts & make small ball
  • Now grease the baking tray n arrange these balls on tray, 2 cm apart from each other.
  • Pre heat the oven 160 degree & bake them for 15 minutes. ( time varies from oven to oven )
  • Once crack starts forming on surface its a indication that the cookies are done.
  • Turn off the oven n take out all cookies n remove them from tray.
  • Allow it to cool & store them in air tight containers.
Enjoy melt in mouth cookies :)!!!!

Churmundo ( Wheat Flour Laddu )



"Churmundo" one of the authentic GSB delicacy. Its a our family favorite. My amma & granny's signature dish!!! Rolling them perfectly is just an art which comes by practice :). But trust me these laddus just melts in the mouth :)


Ingredients :

  • Wheat flour 1 cup
  • Powdered sugar 3/4 cup
  • Ghee/ Clarified butter 1/4 cup
  • Cardamom pods - 2 
  • Cashews/ Raisins - few ( Optional).
Method :
  • Fry cashews & raisins in lil ghee until they are slightly brown, keep aside.
  • In same pan add remaining ghee add wheat flour & fry them in a medium to low flame till u get nice aroma & wheat flour changes its colour ( takes around 15 to 20 mins ). Switch off the flame & allow it cool bit
  • Powder the sugar along with cardamom pods into fine powder .
  • When the wheat flour is still warm to touch add powdered sugar, cashews & raisins  mix well.
  • Take handful of mixture and shape them into round shape using your palm.
Churmundo is ready to relish :) Store them in airtight containers :)

Note :
  • If you find it difficult shape laddus add lil ghee with which you can roll them into round shape.
  • Prepare laddus when the mixture is still warm to touch.
  • I avoided adding raisins & cashews as we love normal plan laddus :)

100th Post with Rava Sheera !!!!!!




Wow happy to present my 100th post :):)!!!!! Thanking each one of you for your true support, love & care :!!!!! Hope you will support me through out :)!!!!!!!


Ingredients :

Rava, semolina 1 cup
Sugar 3/4 cup
Ghee 1/4 cup
Water 2 cups
Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
Cashews- few pieces.
Food colour ( optional ) 1 pinch.


Method :

In a pan add little ghee fry cashews till golden brown & keep it aside.

In a same pan fry rava till nice aroma comes, keep it aside.

Now in the same pan add 2 cups of water when it comes to rolling boil, simmer the gas add roasted rava slowly so that no lumps are formed, cook it covered for 2 minutes.

Now open the lid and add sugar, remaining ghee and keep stirring till it leaves sides of the pan at this stage add cardamom powder, food colour, and roasted cashews & mix well

Maa Ladddu ( Fried Gram Laddu )





One of the simplest yet yummiest laddu ever tasted! You can prepare this within 20 minutes !!! Simplest recipe with few ingredients. Got this recipe from one of my face book friend.



Ingredients 
  •  Fried Gram 3/4 Cup
  • Sugar 3/4 cup
  • Ghee 1/2 cup minus 1 tbsp
  • Cardamom Powder.
Method :

 Powder fried gram & sugar in a mixer.

Finely sieve it so as to get nice powder.

Add ghee & cardamom powder, when its still warm to touch make laddu !!!

That's it :) Laddu is ready, store it in air tight container :)

Phova Kheeri ( Beaten Rice Payasam )





Phova kheeri/ Aval payasam is the simplest yummy sweet which require no much preparation or no much ingredients!!! It can be  prepared in jiffy and can be finished in jiffy :P. So here comes the ingredients.

Ingredients :


  • Beaten rice 1 cup ( Thin Variety )
  • Sugar 1/2 cup
  • Milk 2 cups 
  • Ghee 2 tsp
  • Cardamom powder
  • Cashews - few
  • Saffron strands soaked in milk ( optional )

Method :

In a kadai add ghee and just fry cashews once its fried keep it aside. 

Now in a same pan fry beaten rice till its crisp and slightly changes its colour. 

Now add sugar and milk and cook it for 5 to 6 minutes after that cook it covered for 2 to 3 minutes at this stage payasam will be thick.

  Add saffron strands soaked in milk, cardamom powder mix well and finally add cashews 

Phova kheeri is ready to serve !!!! Enjoy it either hot or chilled

Atta Halwa ( Wheat Flour Halwa )




A simple yummy sweet which can be prepared in jiffy and off course finished in jiffy. Basically this sweet is popular in North India which is served as prasadam in temples!! No much ingredient required,  I got this recipe from "raks kitchen"so here is the recipe for yummy yummy "atte ki halwa "

Ingredients ( Serves 2 people ) Recipe Source: "raks kitchen"

Wheat flour 1/2 cup
Water 1/2 cup
Sugar 1/2 cup ( or more if you want it to be more sweet )
Ghee 1/4 cup
Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp

Garnishing 
Chopped almonds 

Method :

In a non stick kadai add ghee and wheat flour fry till wheat flour turns light brown and nice aroma fills your kitchen ( takes 2 minutes approximately )

Now add water slowly and stirring continuously, so that lumps formed, now add sugar & continue stirring until ghee starts leaving the side and you get nice glaze add cardamom powder mix well

Garnish with chopped almond !

Note :

Entire process should be done under medium to low flame as wheat flour turns brown very early.

If you prefer you can add finely chopped cashews or raisins

Celebrating 50th Post with Quick, easy 15 minutes khova peda !!!!!


Happy to post my 50th recipe :)!!!! Quick, easy khova peda!!! say bye bye to store brought peda :) Tastes really yumm, and you require very limited ingredients:) Thanks to tarladalal.com for the recipe.

Ingredients : ( Makes around 10 pedas )
  • Unsweetened khova 1 cup / 200g ( I used Milkymist  )
  • Sugar 1/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder 2-3 tsp
  • Few saffron strands
Method :

       In a non stick kadai combine khova and sugar and start cooking it on a low flame while stirring continuously till sugar dissolves completely and mixture starts leaving sides of the pan ( it takes approximately 7- 10 minutes )

Remove from the flame and add cardamom powder and saffron strands , allow the mixture too cool completely.

Divide the mixture and shape it into equal balls and garnish it with almonds!!!

Peda is ready to serve, store it in clean air tight container.:)
